Design Creations is a jack of all trades and master of a few.
Don't want to say none, because we do have some nifty tricks up our sleeve.
As an authorized seller of Cinderwing's Dragons we will be printing a passel of dragons for the coming Spring Holidays. Keep a look out here as we hatch new dragons, sea creatures, winged fantasies and other crawlies!
Oh, and eggs, lots of eggs!!!
Kind of fitting seeing that it's the Year of the Dragon!
Design Creations is embarking on a new adventure. With MANY businesses going under or just failing to start when the world was hit with COVID, it was a tough time for everyone. DC was not an exception. We took a backseat when it came to the business side of things, looked after ourselves, and focused on the personal aspects of our designs. In the coming year, we are looking forward to becoming mobile. Yup, we plan on taking DC on the road. We plan on hitting maker's fairs, farmer's markets, craft shows, the occasional flea market, and a few other niche markets out there. Who knows, maybe even a Con or two. Being a HAM and a former Pilot, we may even attend the HAMventions or popular Air Shows.
With this in mind, we are exploring trailer solutions that will make our workshop mobile. Our core projects will be based on the BambuLabs X1 Carbon 3D printer and its AMS units, an X-Carve laser engraver, a small-scale CNC milling machine, a Tronxy Moore series clay printer, our Cricut vinyl machines, and if mobility doesn't impact the performance or life of the machine, our Elegoo Saturn S and Saturn 2 SLA printers. Of course, we will have our traditional tools as well, as many of them are based on the Ryobi 18v battery system. We'll also have many of our paints, airbrushes, and finishing stains too.
Nikki has recently entered the world of making her own soaps, bath bombs, wickless candles, wax melts/warmers, and is excited to dive headfirst into that aspect of her craft. We'll have more details as Nikki works out all the particulars and kinks of her new "hobby."
Our projected timeline for this venture is full-time in 2025. We do plan on an experimental run in the Houston, TX region in the summer of 2024.
Our immediate project, one that is near and dear to me, is Design Creations for Heroes. Look for more information on this at its website.
Stay Safe, Watch Your Six, Look Both Ways, etc!
I started in 3D design back in 2003/2004 with GMax and Flight Simulator 2004. After MANY months of frustration, trial and error I finally got the hang of the program and began creating simple objects. I moved on to AutoDesk 3DS Max with its more advanced feature set and just continued from there.
While being bored and playing around with Nikki's PS4, I wandered on to Twitch. I always heard about it but had never been to the site. My first follow was of a fellow in the UK who was building and painting model tanks. Right on, I could get into watching that. My next follow was of another mini-painter who was sooo entertaining and willing to share tips and tricks that finally got me into the hobby too!
I was introduced to my first computer in the beginning of the 80's, a honking big and "powerfull" IBM 8086. On this beast I toiled away the hours playing a text based space game called "Starfleet 1: The War Begins." Yes it was a cheesy play on Star Trek, was mostly Text Based with some ASCII characters arranged to create some simple "graphical" components. Hey, I was young, impressionable and it was a computer!!!!
In 2020, the year of "covid", we had a windfall come our way and we dusted off Design Creations, converted our garage into a Workshop/Den, bought some tools, a GlowForge, a 3D Printer and a small CNC machine and just went to town!
